How Did We Get Here? The SNAP Benefits (Food Stamps) “Crisis” Beyond the Politics. EP.49
America Is Burning While the Rich Feast: The Brutal Reality of SNAP Cuts and Government Neglect
Hey, Earnest Mann here. In today’s episode, I’m not talking politics—I’m talking about basic human decency and the stunning lack of it in modern America. I break down what’s happening to everyday people while those in power continue to play their games, feast, and ignore the struggles of millions.
The War Against the Working Class
If you’re part of the American working class, you’ve likely gotten the message loud and clear: “[Expletive] you.” From SNAP benefit cuts to shameless government shutdowns, our leaders—especially King Trump and his wealthy allies—have shown a cold and calculated disregard for the needs of everyday citizens. We're seeing a targeted dismantling of protections: workers’ rights, unions, environmental safeguards, and the public school system all under siege.
The Supreme Court’s Silence and Complicity
What once stood as a symbol of justice—the U.S. Supreme Court—has become a rubber stamp for elitist policies. Their decision to support the halt of SNAP benefits wasn’t just a legal ruling, it was a moral failure. The irony? These justices, comfortably paid and appointed for life, will never know the desperation of a mother trying to feed her children with no support.
When the Poor Go Hungry, What Would Jesus Do?
Even as an agnostic, I respect the teachings attributed to Jesus. He fed the hungry and healed the sick, not turned them away. So I’m asking Trump’s religious supporters directly—would Jesus endorse these SNAP cuts? This isn’t sarcasm. It’s a call to conscience. The contrast couldn’t be more stark between the philosophy of compassion and the policies of cruelty.
America’s Nero: Fiddling While the Nation Burns
Trump's reign feels eerily similar to Emperor Nero, who allegedly fiddled while Rome burned. Trump may not hold a violin, but America is burning just the same—from economic inequality, institutional collapse, and widespread suffering. And the people paying the price are not those in gilded mansions.

Hello folks, my name is Ernest. Thank
0:02
you for tuning in. Before I go into
0:05
this, I want you to know regardless of
0:08
where you stand politically, this
0:10
episode is not intended to be about
0:12
politics. It's about basic goddamn
0:16
humanity or a lack thereof.
0:20
Currently in America, if you're one of
0:22
the fortunate few whose hard day of work
0:24
consists of 18 rounds of golf at a
0:27
private golf course followed by a
0:29
fabulous dinner, you probably won't hear
0:32
this message. But the rest of us have
0:36
certainly heard yours. Need SNAP
0:39
benefits to keep you and your family
0:41
from going hungry? [ __ ] you. need a
0:44
functional government that isn't shut
0:46
down to provide taxpaying citizens with
0:49
even the most basic governmental
0:52
functions such as lifesaving emergency
0:55
organ transplants typically sent via
0:58
aircraft. [ __ ] you. Yes, I believe most
1:03
Americans are getting the message loud
1:05
and clear. The question becomes though,
1:09
what are we going to do about it?
1:12
Well,
1:14
I believe that when enough Americans and
1:16
their children begin to starve, they'll
1:19
begin to be thinking long and hard about
1:22
some terrible decisions they made about
1:25
a year ago. Because now the proverbial
1:28
chickens are coming home to roost. And
1:31
King Trump and his round table of
1:34
thievingly rich bureaucratic puppets in
1:36
the White House has a clear and
1:39
unambiguous message to the peasants, aka
1:43
the American working class. [ __ ] you. I
1:47
want to reiterate that this is not meant
1:49
to be about politics per se. This is a
1:52
critique of what America shamefully has
1:55
become. At no time in the relatively
1:58
short history of this nation has there
2:01
been a more corrupt, inept, and inhuman
2:04
president and administration than now.
2:08
The current administration, which are
2:11
nothing but total lap dogs for
2:13
bureaucratic corporate interest, have
2:15
been working overtime to destroy every
2:18
social pillar of our democratic society.
2:22
If I may name just a few.
2:25
A war on workers rights and protections.
2:29
A war against unionization.
2:31
A war against environmental
2:33
responsibility.
2:35
A war against the public school system.
2:38
A war against federal workers. And a war
2:41
against any and all critical news media,
2:45
if any still exist at all. And that's
2:48
only a handful of what's been destroyed
2:51
or is in the process of being destroyed.
2:55
right now. As far as the Supreme Court,
2:59
what do you think our paragonss of law
3:01
and social justice think about King
3:04
Trump's desire and demand to destroy the
3:08
SNAP food assistance subsidy? Think
3:12
apparently they think the idea is just
3:15
fine and dandy. King Trump's lap dogs of
3:19
the bureaucratic corporate elite voted
3:21
to side with King Trump to halt SNAT
3:25
food benefit payments as Trump wanted.
3:28
So, so much for the Supreme Court.
3:33
I find it very ironic that this select
3:37
group of creatures who are very well-
3:40
paid and benefited and have their job
3:44
for life who are supposed to be decent
3:47
human beings capable of good, humane and
3:51
rational judgment would vote to deny
3:54
those truly in need of support. to those
3:57
needing the most basic element of life,
4:01
food, and the wealthiest and supposedly
4:04
greatest nation on earth.
4:07
You can bet your ass one thing though.
4:10
None of them are ever going to go
4:12
hungry. And none of them I'd be willing
4:16
to wager a lot of money if I had it ever
4:20
have been. So I ask you now and I don't
4:24
give a damn what political stripe you're
4:26
from. Does this seem right to you? Do
4:30
you think this degradation and
4:32
humiliation forced on people with little
4:35
or no means to do better and most often
4:38
are simply victims of circumstance and
4:42
situations
4:43
they had no control over is right.
4:47
I can tell you that in the past 20 years
4:50
alone, I have personally known dozens
4:52
and dozens of people that lost
4:54
everything by no fault of their own. And
4:58
I can state that with an absolute truth.
5:02
I'm about to wrap this up. And if you've
5:05
stuck around this long, I absolutely
5:07
thank you. And if you are or formerly
5:10
were a King Trump supporter, I doubly
5:13
thank you and want to ask you one of the
5:17
most difficult questions of all. What
5:20
would Jesus do?
5:22
Now, I'm not trying to be sarcastic. As
5:25
I've stated many times before, I'm very
5:28
happily agnostic, but I do appreciate
5:31
much of the philosophy of the Jesus.
5:35
I'm saying this because I know many of
5:38
King Trump's base to be religious. So
5:42
with that in mind, I'm simply asking you
5:44
this. Do you think Jesus would endorse
5:47
the idea of cutting SNAP benefits?
5:51
I would certainly hope not because I
5:54
don't claim to be a theologian by any
5:57
means, but I do seem to remember Jesus
6:00
healing people and Jesus feeding people.
6:04
You know, generally doing good things.
6:08
That's why I subscribe to the idea of
6:11
the old Dooby brother song that Jesus is
6:15
just all right with me.
6:18
Just one last thing. When I think of
6:21
King Trump, one of the closest
6:24
historical figures in terms of
6:27
delusional and utter disconnection from
6:30
reality and anything other than the most
6:33
superficial human connection, I think of
6:36
the Roman Emperor Nero.
6:40
Now, historically, much is known about
6:42
and said about Nero, and one of them
6:45
being, besides the fact that he stomped
6:49
his own mother to death, is that Nero
6:52
fiddled as Rome burned. Which begs the
6:55
question, I wonder what tune King Trump
6:59
is currently playing because America is
7:03
sure as hell burning.
7:05
I invite you to reach out to me. I would
7:08
love to discuss any of this or anything
7:12
else for that matter with you.
7:15
Until next time, this is Ernest and it's
7:17
all I've got for today.
