Why Aren't Listeners Commenting? Exploring Engagement on The Earnest Mann Show
Hey folks, it's Earnest Mann here, bringing you another thought-provoking episode. Today, I'm tackling an interesting observation – why are so many of you reluctant to comment on YouTube? Despite the enticing contest and the offer of answering two questions, responses are coming through emails rather than public comments. It's flattering, but not quite hitting the mark.
Engaging with Listeners: What's Holding You Back?
In my conversations, including one with a friend from an old TV show in the 80s, we debated whether listeners are truly engaged or just hesitant to comment. He suggested they aren't listening, but I argue they are engaged, just not publicly. Is there fear or apathy? Let's find out together. I even proposed a hypothetical contest offering a 24-karat gold bar to see if that could motivate public responses.
Real-Life Generosity: A Story of Unexpected Kindness
Reflecting on acts of kindness, I shared a story about an older gentleman in Kansas who left a $100,000 tip for his favorite waitress, showing how unexpected generosity can change lives. This ties back to my question – could an enticing reward encourage more of you to engage publicly?

a couple of episodes earlier July 15th to be exact I asked you if you could answer two questions in a contest no I still have no winner yet but I did notice something kind of strange several of you tried to answer the question but just not through the YouTube comments section I received answers through emails instead that's fine but it's about as flattering as a woman agreeing to have sex with you as long as you agree to wear three condoms hey folks I'm Ernest and it's Monday time to go make those Rich non-working shareholders even richer one of the questions that I get asked more than any other when I'm publicly promoting my show is what's your show about now there's nothing wrong with that question but it does come with a supposition a loaded gun question implying that my show had has to be about a given something by now most of you should know that I try not to focus too much on any given subject and there are many reasons for this but the primary reason is that I feel my show would become boring very quickly and I sure as hell don't want that to happen especially if I'm getting feedback from you telling me what the hell you want me to talk about so as I was talking to this friend of mine from an old TV show in the80s about the mcal personalities of my listeners at one point he stated it doesn't matter Ernest they're not listening you could offer them a [ __ ] bar of gold and they still wouldn't respond because they're not [ __ ] listening my argument with him however was not that listeners were not responding they just weren't commenting and he off the cuff was dismissive saying same thing and I said no it's not the same thing I don't know what it is keeping them from commenting on YouTube the only thing I can think of is that they are scared to comment then he said scared what the hell would they have to be scared of and then I thought to myself he's right unless my listeners are all secretly tinfoil Hatters that wouldn't make any sense so I decided to raise the stakes wanting to use his very idea if purely hypothetically speaking I offered a bar of pure 24 karat gold in a contest by leaving the correct answer in the comment section on YouTube with absolutely no strings attached other than giving the correct answer to win of course is that something listeners would be willing to participate in so that's what I'm asking for folks a simple answer and it's really hard for me to conceive that out of all the people watching or listening to this episode that many are just too damn lazy apathetic or frightened of what I have no [ __ ] clue to answer answer a question with even a simple yes or no there is one thing for certain I can say there is absolutely no way in hell I can do this I cannot provide the gold I believe the fact that I have a Kofi Link in the description begging for a cup of coffee pretty much gives that away but my friend could if he chose to do so I'm not saying that my friend is anywhere near as obscenely rich as Jeff Brazos but he's sure as hell could afford to have lunch with him every week if you get my drift so before I pitch this idea to my friend the whole idea here is to demonstrate and throw his argument that you are not listening in his face by getting a response from you because other otherwise without a pretty damn decent large response from you there's absolutely no way in hell it's going to happen at all which would mean we're back to square one just ask yourself this for a moment let's just say not only you responded but thousands of others responded as well and as a consequence such a contest did actually come about wouldn't that be fil fantastic a chance to win a fantastic prize and it wouldn't cost anybody one red sent I don't know if you're familiar with this or not but there are cases quite often where very eccentric wealthy folks commit random acts of absolute kindness that completely benefit and change people's lives they're not seeking publicity whatsoever it just happens there was this older guy just 2 years ago in Kansas that had been eating at the same diner for some time and he had his favorite waitress and over time he got to know you know a bit about her through small talk and one day she told him things were going a bit rough for her family she told him that her husband had been laid off from his the plant where he had worked for like 15 years and her two young children might have to stay with relatives for a while until they got back on their feet so after a couple of cups of coffee before leaving the man told her that he thought she was a great waitress a really nice person but unfortunately he was leaving the state and wouldn't wasn't sure if he would ever see her again but he just wanted to thank her for her great service and kindness she thanked the man as well but of course she had other customers to take care of after a few minutes she looked over and didn't see him at his table and assumed correctly that he had left and she felt bad because she wanted to say goodbye one last time he had always tipped her well and she honestly thought that he would probably maybe put a few extra bucks in since he probably wouldn't see her again it turns out she was correct but she almost passed out when she saw that he had left her a check for
$100,000 wow if something like that ever happened to me having absolutely never won anything in my life I'm absolutely certain I would feel the same way or to quote the dude from the big Labowski that kind of money would really tie the room together man and here's some archival footage of my great Granddad I'm a lush man so dear listener did you enjoy this deep dive or do you have an entirely different take on this drop me a line and please click subscribe because the more subscribers I have the more others get to see and hear this I don't mean to pressure you but if you give a damn about others like I do it only takes around 2 seconds and would be greatly appreciated until next Monday or Friday if this ain't Earnest what is
