Podcast# 287 Earnest Thoughts: Why won’t people play ball anymore?

Navigating the Digital Age: A Call for Authentic Connection and Awareness

Hello, it's Earnest Mann, and in this thought-provoking episode, we delve into the complex dynamics of our modern, technology-driven world. I'm talking directly to those feeling anxious, isolated, or lonely in this era of information overload. This discussion is an invitation to self-awareness and a critique of the superficial interactions that have come to dominate our digital age.

The Irony of Information Accessibility and Social Isolation

Reflecting on the evolution of information access, from library visits to instant digital availability, I emphasize how this shift has impacted our societal structure and personal interactions. The paradox here is clear: despite the wealth of information at our fingertips, many, particularly the youth, find themselves more isolated and depressed. It's a stark reminder that increased connectivity doesn't necessarily translate to meaningful connections.

The Challenge of Engaging Meaningfully in a Techno-centric World

I discuss the critical issue of our inability to engage in meaningful social interactions, a phenomenon exacerbated by our reliance on technology. This lack of engagement is not just a personal issue; it's a societal concern that affects how we perceive and interact with the world. It's about understanding the unspoken rules of common decency, the give and take, which I liken to 'playing ball' - a concept seemingly lost in today's digital landscape.

00:00 [Music] good Monday everybody and thank you for tuning in or for tuning in again if you're one of those many millions of people out there that are feeling anxious isolated or just downright lonely this episode is for you and if you give me what I have to say here listen list what I have to say may not only inform you but activate your introspection circuits as well which really may surprise you we're living in a time right now where access to information at least here in the United States has never been

00:51 so open than instantaneous for just a simple example of this when was the last time you physically actually needed to go to the library I'd be willing to bet that for most folks that hasn't really been necessary for quite some time I'm not saying it's gone completely but I believe it's been significantly reduced I remember for example even in the mid90s still having to go to what was known as the reference librarian in the library if you were needing some unusual or unorthodox information about

01:33 a given subject but now of course that is not the case something has to be very specialized and pretty esoteric toward a trip to the library or some other very specialized information facility or institution so what has become the primary Mantra of at least the last 20 years is the end less deification of this wonderful Information Age where people have the power to easily get access to so much information and with lightning speed all of this quick and easy access to information would have been unimaginable in the

:

03:08 understand the unspoken rules of common decency of give and take or to put this another way people refusing to play ball anymore now before I go into any of my speculations based on my observations of the cause and effect of what's taking place in contemp temporary American society right now I'm going to illustrate an example of what I'm talking about millions of people especially young people who thoroughly technically understand and are entrenched in social media are simultaneously and ironically

03:50 feeling more isolated and depressed than ever yet apparently oblivious to the contradiction concerning this from what I've witnessed and personally experienced I feel as though there is something going on here that needs to be pointed out and even though this is not entirely the cause of the problem it is definitely a self-evident symptom there is an apparent failure for many people to understand the concept of playing ball now of course I have my podcast and with this podcast I try to talk about well just about anything

04:39 because when it comes down to the long and short of it although I try to inform you about interesting subjects I'm trying to play ball I would like more than anything for you to engage with what I had to say I find that it gives purpose and meaning to my life the unfortunate fact however is that it seems as though I'm not delivering any messages or my messages my topics for discussion on a two-way street what makes me feel really good is when every now and then I post an episode and I get a lot of views and

05:26 anytime little old me gets something like say I don't know just shy of 200 views I consider that a home run at least for me it's the equivalent of going viral and again I really appreciate that and I enjoy that but on the other hand I can't help but notice that even when a particular episode does relatively well I still end up getting very few if any comments and frankly that's what has me so damn stupified you see on the one hand there are supposedly all of these people who claim they feel terrible because they feel so

06:14 isolated and alone but on the other it seems as though it's these very same people who will not engage they have no questions they have no concerns about the subject matter that I'm putting across and frankly I'm simply not understanding this contradictory and what some could even reasonably describe as schizophrenic Behavior what I'm trying to do here is not just talk about the subject matter but improve my life and hopefully the lives of others through the sharing of opinions and communication now I'm not claiming that

06:56 I necessarily have anything truly profound I am not a philosopher nor do I consider myself to be brilliant or have a super high IQ but I do believe that it could be fairly reasonably argued that ultimately the point of life is to help others and you cannot help others unless you're willing to engage with others I've known quite a few men in my life that t techically were considered very intelligent and had high IQs yet many of them were so self-absorbed that despite all that knowledge the only thing they really

07:42 seemed obsessed with was intellectual mental masturbation and that was something that the women of my generation were definitely not interested in now there's nothing inherently wrong with being smart matter of fact fact I think it's better to be smart than stupid and I believe society and the world as a whole would be much better off being managed and controlled by intelligence rather than you know where we currently find ourselves today being primarily controlled by avarice apathy and just plain old

08:24 stupidity but when you have your head crammed so far and firmly up your consumerist and technological ass that you can't tell a woman she has a nice dress on and that it looks pretty on her or maybe even notice and compliment on the flower she put in her hair you have no right to be complaining in life about loneliness and isolation because your Android like interaction with the world around you is the primary cause of your self-fulfilling prophecy in conclusion I'll just say this there's a whole world full of

09:10 interesting people engaged in interesting things but you'll never truly appreciate that or them until you pull your head out of your ass turn off your cell phone and maybe even do what we used to do as young kids ask them if they want to play ball if you've enjoyed this please do subscribe and hit the notification Bell because it really does help my channel grow and if you can offer some support please do so by going to the Kofi Link in the description below even a cup of coffee would be sincerely appreciated

09:53 and last but certainly not least if you have anything no matter how ordinary or unordinary you would like to hear or discuss don't hesitate to reach out and tell me what it is that link is also in the description below until next time this is Ernest thank you for listening wishing your health wealth and good luck

About the Podcast

The Earnest Mann Show
A truly unique broadcast, Unabashedly celebrating unwokeness.
One of the many things I enjoy doing in life, is helping other people the best way I know how, by offering people a sanctuary of sanity in a world gone mad. I do this by offering a different perspective, a realist perspective on just about anything and everything. You see, I have found, that there can be amazing relevant connections in our everyday life, from very unlikely sources, meaning people that on the surface you might think would absolutely have nothing in common with you, but having a discussion with them, ended up benefiting my life, just with the exact information, and at the exact time I needed it! I'm telling you, you will be amazed at how communications with many life experiences can positively affect and improve your life! That is why I created The Earnest Mann Show, a place where we can talk about anything. From history, to current events, economics, politics and religion, to sex with space aliens, you name it, the topics for discussion are only as limited as our imagination, and your input, so leave a comment, because your opinion matters, in this big beautiful world we all share.
