Jon Stewart has a problem…. Relevancy. Earnest thoughts The Earnest Mann Show

The Return of Jon Stewart: A Nostalgic Yet Complex Reunion

Hello, Earnest Mann here! In this episode, we're taking a closer look at Jon Stewart's comeback to "The Daily Show," amidst a backdrop of peculiar and shocking events. From a serviceman's dramatic protest outside the Israeli Embassy to a baffling incident at a car dealership, it's been an unusual week, to say the least. Yet, amidst these narratives, Stewart's return stands out, provoking a blend of nostalgia and contemplation on the nature of entertainment, relevance, and the pursuit of meaning in our current era.

The Intriguing Dynamics of Jon Stewart's Comeback

Jon Stewart's return to "The Daily Show" sparks a complex mix of emotions and reflections. Once a beacon of satirical news, Stewart's presence rekindles memories of a show that was not only entertaining but also critically acclaimed, securing numerous awards. However, beneath the surface of this reunion lies a stark reality: the inevitable changes in audience demographics, the quest for financial viability, and the challenges of maintaining relevance in a rapidly evolving cultural landscape. Stewart's decision to participate only on Mondays during the election season underscores a broader dialogue about the balance between legacy and adaptation in the face of changing times.

The Crucial Elements of Relevance and Legacy in Entertainment

As we delve into Stewart's impact and the broader implications of his return, it becomes clear that the entertainment industry's dynamics are fraught with complexities. The shift in audience demographics, with many original viewers no longer around, and the changing contours of social and political discourse, present formidable challenges for maintaining relevance. Stewart's efforts to connect with both past and present audiences highlight the delicate act of navigating one's legacy while confronting the current moment's demands.

00:02 [Music] hello hello to all we're going to be taking a deep dive into John Stewart but first I just want to touch a little bit on this crazy ass week and it has been a crazy crazy week Rick there was the American serviceman who set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy then there was the guy at a car dealership looking at cars and while having a conversation with a Salesman apparently felt it was necessary for him to prove some obs your point so he went out to his car came back in with a handgun shot himself in the foot laughed

01:09 then turned around and left if you can figure that out hey forget about all those other clowns running for office I'm voting for you but you know what there was something crazier than both of those things and it happened to me because apparent L I don't know what it was that caused such a reaction to my Friday episode concerning the Perils of inclusion but something definitely hit a nerve or maybe I should say didn't hit a nerve because absolutely no one even wanted to hear it and I don't know if

01:52 that's because the subject matter is too considered way too out of bounds or tearfully boring or what but I sure as hell would like to know now before I say anything critical about the daily shows John Stewart and I will I just wanted you to know that a lot of you people out there scare the living hell out of me on the one hand I tell you over and over that I'm actually nonpartisan I point out wrongs and inaccuracies both on the left and on on the right and you tell me you support me and you want me to do that okay fine so when I go and do

02:40 that the other thing that happens you either completely ignore me or come directly at me with clubs and pitchwars what the hell am I supposed to do I really appreciate my audience I suppose the vast majority of you get what I'm trying to say but the sad truth is apparently there are some others of you out there that come across as schizophrenic just letting you know how I feel and speaking of schizophrenic if you're a new YouTuber or you've been doing this for a while but haven't heard of them two bu has

03:25 just about everything you need to help your channel grow and the two great things about it is first it's extremely simple and intuitive to use and second they're offering a really special sweet deal for using my Affiliated Tu buddy Link in the description below I think it's a really sweet deal on an excellent YouTube growth service and if you're not totally happy with two buddy you can kick my ass well not literally it's a figure of speech but I Ed to Buddy and I think it's great and you have nothing to lose

04:07 so give it a try you'll be glad you did now back to the show now about John Stewart or should I say the return of John Stewart to The Daily Show way back in the day I always watched John Stewart The Daily Show was very funny well at least to me it was but I'm into ironic humor and of course the interaction with Steven coar and then The Daily Show being followed by the coar report was perfect and the fact is it was very perfect for many years and many Grammys I think it received like 18 so it stands as object objective

05:01 truthiness sorry Stephen I couldn't resist of just how damn great The Daily Show was and that's my key Point here was the fact of the matter is that now just as it was back then ultimately what this whole thing is about from the owners of the show and obviously John Stewart as well as Steven coer because it quickly became a package deal is the money and I don't give a damn who says otherwise it is always about the money but what does change is who does the money matter to now what I'm going to say I feel is

05:48 very important so please listen when I break this down I'm basically going to get all Larry David on on you and tell you to Curb Your Enthusiasm for reasons although however unpleasant I feel will totally make sense and why John Stewart cannot save The Daily Show one of the huge elements that make stars well Stars besides hopefully having some Talent or a great deal of talent is that they are young and hungry and if they are lucky enough to hit something like Jerry Seinfeld did with Larry David to somehow Hit Upon a working formula you

06:41 stick with that cash cow as long as possible Don't Rock the Boat don't do anything to things up like Seinfeld's Michael Richards otherwise known as Kramer that he did a complete career-ending idiot and and eventually if you're not an idiot lead a fair Fairly sane and modest lifestyle and after say I don't know six seven eight years Seasons or longer you're done you are completely free and set for life that's the way it's supposed to go and that's in fact the current reality for

07:24 John Stewart and Steven coar neither St nor coar should actually need financially to work in television or anywhere for that matter another single day in their lives which is why Stuart said he's only doing Mondays and for this election season after that he's out that only leaves the other people concerned the producers who are themselves concerned about the most important factor again making money and things can be going great until well they're not going great meaning the producers are not making any

08:16 money anymore and despite the history and fame of John Stewart to producers love only goes so far there are two Prim Ary elements at play here I'd like to argue about why things like this in entertainment usually don't work out I want to make it clear again I don't want to be sounding like I'm hating on John Stewart or his legacy I'm simply trying to explain why more often than not especially when it's basically Nostalgia things like s this typically just don't work out demographics at the time when John

09:04 Stewart was at his Peak on The Daily Show and then factoring in the roughly 10 years that he's been gone a large percentage of his fans are quite simply dead not necessarily because of old age but just from Life car accidents shootings sure as hell is no shortage of shootings in America the point is they're dead and dead people aren't watching TV and I'd be willing to bet you if you ran the actual numbers you'd be very surprised to find out just how many of his viewers from those days are simply

09:50 no longer with us but if any single Factor stands in John Stewart's way it's relevancy when I watch The Return of John Stewart to The Daily Show over the last couple of weeks I'd be lying if I didn't say I felt a certain amount of nostalgia and for a time there's certainly there's nothing wrong with that and other than obviously looking older at one point he was holding up a picture of himself from The Daily Show that was 20 years old and he was pointing out somewhat jokingly yet also somewhat angrily

10:33 exasperated pointing to the picture and saying look look at this this was me just 20 years ago and of course I identified with that as I'm sure many other viewers of that episode did as well I get it John I don't want to see you me or the people I love get old but unfortunately that's something I or anyone else for that matter has no control over so at least for me his message only made me feel depressed but lastly what I wanted to see was my old memories of John Stewart was he or could he be still clever and

11:26 funny and the answer which did fulfill my nostalgic dreams was yes he was just as witty had the self-depreciating humor as well as the ironic humor yep John hadn't lost his touch but that's coming from me one who is almost exactly John Stewart's age now I'm not the person I was in my late 30s when I started watching him way back then the sad reality is that the world and its concerns at this time has changed a great deal since he last ran The Daily Show and certainly much more than that since the show was at the peak of its

12:18 popularity so from what I've seen so far going to have Stuart's really going to have a a hard time for the same reasons that so many other entertainers and which ultimately that's what he is at being witty socially insightful and perhaps most importantly being culturally or socially relevant at this current stage in his life because one of the greatest tragedies that can happen to any performer is not knowing when or Having the courage to admit like a boxer being past his prime for example to hang up

13:03 the gloves when they should and instead continue to perform until they become caricatures of themselves until next Monday or Friday this is earnest wishing you peace and good things

About the Podcast

The Earnest Mann Show
A truly unique broadcast, Unabashedly celebrating unwokeness.
One of the many things I enjoy doing in life, is helping other people the best way I know how, by offering people a sanctuary of sanity in a world gone mad. I do this by offering a different perspective, a realist perspective on just about anything and everything. You see, I have found, that there can be amazing relevant connections in our everyday life, from very unlikely sources, meaning people that on the surface you might think would absolutely have nothing in common with you, but having a discussion with them, ended up benefiting my life, just with the exact information, and at the exact time I needed it! I'm telling you, you will be amazed at how communications with many life experiences can positively affect and improve your life! That is why I created The Earnest Mann Show, a place where we can talk about anything. From history, to current events, economics, politics and religion, to sex with space aliens, you name it, the topics for discussion are only as limited as our imagination, and your input, so leave a comment, because your opinion matters, in this big beautiful world we all share.
